Celebrating the life of
Mary Lynn Stephens Parker
June 27, 1943 - November 23, 2025
Mary Lynn Stephens Parker, 82, went home to be with the Lord on November 23, 2025, after a courageous four-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Lynn was born in Atlanta on June 27, 1943, to the late Benjamin H. Stephens, II, and Wilma Lucille Tillman Stephens. Her family moved to Savannah when she was four years old, and started attending Morningside Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ and was baptized. She served there, even as a teenager, working with children in VBS and Sunday School. She sang in the choir and served faithfully. Later she moved her membership to Bull Street Baptist Church, where she was involved with WMU, nursery, and children’s Sunday School. She never met a baby or child that she didn't love. Her family often referred to her as "the baby whisperer.”
Lynn graduated from Savannah High School in 1961. She loved meeting and staying connected with former classmates.
In 1968, Lynn went to work at Grumman, which later became Gulfstream. From the beginning, she worked in receiving. She took many classes that advanced her career, until her retirement 30 years later. She then began working for Savannah Fence & Entry Systems, Inc., where she managed the office and was the friendly voice that answered the phone and helped customers.
Years later, she retired to enjoy her family and serve others. From babysitting children for ladies Bible study, to volunteering at the Baptist Center, and helping with dance classes, to serving the homeless, she was always willing to help others. Lynn never met a stranger and loved others well.
Lynn led a very active life. She loved to roller skate, was on softball teams, bowled in leagues, danced, rode horses, did aerobics, walked regularly, and enjoyed going out in the boat and fishing. In her younger days, she loved to sew and made clothes for herself and her children. Her favorite place to be was the beach. For nearly 40 years, family "beach week" at Tybee was an extra special time for her. Spending time with her siblings, children, grands, great grands, and nieces and nephews meant so much to her.
Lynn looked forward to her monthly Gulfstream retiree luncheon, where she would see dear friends. Through cancer, she became a charter member of the Gynecologic Oncology Support Group. She loved the monthly meetings and made many friends. She was always having fun with the people she met during chemo.
Lynn and her family are forever grateful to Dr. Sarah Gill, Lizzie, Julie, Angel and the many others who were there for her over the past four years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Stephens, sisters-in-law, Jan Stephens and Betty Stephens.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, David Parker of Savannah; her four children, Deborah (Roy) Tomazin of Register, GA, Roan (Mary) Cowart of Guyton, GA, Daniel Cowart of Savannah, and Jerry Blackburn, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; her bonus daughter, Robbin (Jesse) Perry of Guyton, GA; her brothers, Ronald Stephens of Savannah, and Benjamin H.
